I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus. I caught the stomach bug yesterday and ended up in the ER…AGAIN…to get IV fluid. I don’t know how this keeps happening to me, but yesterday’s was the worst I’ve ever been. No doubt. I’m afraid that along with all my innards and my sanity, I may have vomitted out all of my ideas because I have nothing to write.
So I will tell you about my day. Today I drank sprite and ate lemon jello (it’s definitely not a flavor I would recommend, unless you’re into the taste of non-toxic pine-sol) and ventured into crackers around dinner time. It’s amazing how little food is needed to sustain you when your stomach says, “No more! Leave me alone!” and retreats like a scared ameoba being poked with a scalpal. (that’s right. I just mixed biology with creative writing because that’s how confused I am.)
Then when I wasn’t napping, I worked on my thesis. Another ten pages were due today and I only had four as of this morning because I planned to finish them yesterday. LET THIS BE A LESSON TO YOU ALL IN PROCRASTINATION!!! (I ended up with 8.5)
One funny thing about my hospital experience was that I was dreaming, or maybe hallucinating, and in real life I wanted my mom to put my jacket over my wheelchair where I’d been using it as a pillow, but rather than say that, I started telling her I wanted a ceasar salad and not a garden salad. “Mom…salad…will you? I want the Caesar salad. Grandpa had the garden salad.” Whattt???
Thankfully, if you’re disgusting enough, no one wants you to hang around the waiting room, so I was helped pretty quickly. By that time, though, I was so dehydrated that the nurses couldn’t start and IV because they couldn’t find my veins. I came home looking like a user with all kinds of track marks on my arms (I think I counted seven). That wasn’t the bad part, though. The bad part was when they would “chase” the vein because it would move (?) so they’d swirl and jab the needle around hoping to find it again. What a lovely experience.
This morning I was supposed to play tennis–obviously I didn’t–but for the first time when I’ve had to cancel, the weather was cold and overcast. Granted it’s not two feet of snow on the ground like in New England, but nevertheless, I wouldn’t have played today even if I felt like a million dollars. So maybe there is some justice in the world after all.
And a fine set of pages they are.
